Common questions

What It Costs to Get It Sorted

Do prices change once you start?

Only if something turns up that nobody could have seen beforehand. Even then, we stop and talk you through it first. The price you signed off on stays put unless you agree to a new one.

What does "$50 off your first service" cover?

Book any job with us for the first time and $50 comes off what you owe at the end, no threshold to hit. There's no form or code needed either, we simply apply it.

Is the quote really free?

It is. An electrician inspects the job in person and works out a fixed figure while they're standing there. Say no on the day and the visit still hasn't cost you a cent.

How do I pay?

Card or transfer both work, and either happens once the job is finished. Whatever figure you approved in writing beforehand is exactly what lands on the invoice.

Common questions

Licensed, Insured and Done Properly

What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?

A safety switch (RCD) trips the circuit almost instantly if electricity starts leaking to earth, the exact scenario behind most home electrocutions. A good share of Newtown's terrace rows still miss one on part of the board, and fitting them is usually a same-visit job.

Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?

No. DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW past a handful of very minor tasks, so a licensed electrician handles everything else. Get it wrong here and you're gambling with your own safety, your cover with the insurer, and possibly the sale of the house down the track if the work turns up unlicensed.

Are you licensed and insured?

NSW Electrical Contractor Licence #452529C, Master Electricians Australia membership, and full insurance on top. Look either credential up yourself if you'd rather not just take our word for it.

What brands do you install?

Switchgear is Clipsal and Hager, picked because it keeps working long after the cheap stuff has started tripping for no reason. You pay a touch more on the day and skip the second visit.

Common questions

How Fast We Get to You

Do you work weekends?

Saturday and Sunday slots come up more often than you'd think, so mention it when you ring and we'll check what's free. A real emergency doesn't wait for a weekday either way.

What happens after I call?

A time gets booked on the spot. On the day someone assesses the job, quotes it on site and waits for your yes before a single tool comes out.

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Sparks from a switch, a burning smell, or the power dropping across the whole house all count. Call straight away and a licensed electrician will talk you through making things safe while help is on the way.

How do I book?

Dial (02) 9538 7139. Whoever picks up handles the whole booking there and then, so you're rarely off the phone before it's confirmed.

Common questions

The Newtown Questions

Do you work on heritage/strata properties?

Both come up often here. A heritage-listed terrace means we work carefully around the original fabric instead of cutting through it, and a strata job means owners-corporation sign-off before anything's booked.

What suburbs do you service?

Newtown plus Camperdown, Stanmore, Marrickville, Annandale, Petersham and Lewisham make up our patch. A street or two past the edge of that list is still worth a call, we'll be honest about whether it's a yes. - Electrician Camperdown - Electrician Stanmore - Electrician Marrickville - Electrician Annandale - Electrician Petersham - Electrician Lewisham

Why do Newtown's older homes need switchboard upgrades?

A lot of the terrace stock here dates to the 1880s-1910s building boom, and quite a few of those boards were never touched beyond a fuse swap. An original single-phase supply built for lights and a radiator struggles once a kitchen, cooling and everything else modern gets added on.

How local are you, really?

We're through Newtown's terrace grid on a normal run, not on a special trip. Ask a technician about a particular street and there's a fair chance they've already worked on it.
